Sleep Apnea

Call 631-269-6206

Have you, a spouse or a family member ever been diagnosed with sleep apnea? Not sure exactly what it is or how to treat it? We can help you with that. Here at Kings Park Dental, Dr. Gentile and his staff have received special training regarding sleep health awareness. We work closely with sleep physicians in order to provide the best treatment available for you.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a situation in which the entire upper airway is blocked causing airflow to stop. An apneic event (where you stop breathing in your sleep for at least 10 seconds) happens hundreds of times per night in someone that suffers from sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is a very serious condition because you can only live 3 minutes without oxygen. Severe sleep apnea raises your death risk by 46%. Additionally untreated sleep apnea takes 12-15 years off your life.  40% of adults over the age of 40 snore and less than 10% of people who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea have been diagnosed, meaning that over 3 million Americans suffer each day.

Dr. Gentile can help treat your sleep apnea with an oral appliance which meets your specific needs.

Here at our office we have a phryangometer and a rhinometer. With these two devices it allows us to see how large or constricted your airway might be. We use the phryangometer and rhinometer as a screening tool to see if you have a high or low risk towards an airway obstruction.

Additionally we offer an at home sleep test. An at home sleep test besides being convenient allows us to get an accurate reading of your sleep in your own bed instead of in a sleep lab.
